The state highway from Ahilyanagar to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar is currently literally full of potholes. The asphalt covering of the road from Police Superintendent Chowk to Wadala Bahiroba Bus Station, a distance of about 41.5 km, has been completely destroyed. There are more than 850 potholes on the 42 km stretch of this road. Due to this, travel is becoming a life-threatening experience.
Huge traffic of vehicles
A large number of containers, freight trucks, dumpers, tempos, private vehicles and two-wheelers are transported on this road. All these heavy and light vehicles run virtually day and night. However, the condition of the road is so dire that drivers have to travel with great caution. A
Temporary bandage
At the onset of the monsoon, the Public Works Department tried to fill the potholes on the road by pouring soil and gravel. However, these temporary measures did not last even for a few hours in the rain. As a result, the road has become more dangerous, and deeper and more dangerous potholes have formed in place of the potholes.
Reasons for the poor condition of the highway
The number of heavy vehicles has increased significantly since the traffic on this road was diverted from the Manmad Highway. The road is rapidly being damaged by vehicles carrying more than its capacity. Due to the continuous neglect of the Public Works Department, the road condition is getting worse day by day. Driving at night is becoming extremely dangerous due to the lack of shining strips, reflectors, and side markings on the road.
potholes at important places
There are potholes at a distance of 250 meters near the Gulmohor turn immediately after the Police Superintendent Chowk. There is a series of potholes in the area in front of Vasant Tekdi, Tapovan turn, and up to Shendi. After the Shendi bypass, the road up to the Dongargan fork is steep and vehicles are moving in a lurching motion. The entire road from Dhangarwadi fork, Jeur to Pandhari bridge is full of potholes.
The intensity of potholes is particularly visible in the Shanishinganapur fork, Ghodegaon Chauphula, Shingve Tukai fork, Pandhari bridge, Imampur Ghat and Tavalenagar areas. Due to the critical condition of this road, more than 45 major accidents have been reported in the last one year.
Neglect by the administration
Citizens and drivers on this highway have to travel with their lives in their hands. The risk of accidents has increased and many have to bear financial and physical losses. Still, no concrete and long-term solutions have been taken by the relevant authorities and departments.
