Bhatghar dam, located in Bhor taluka of Pune district, has been in the discussion for the past few days for a strange reason. The water of the dam suddenly started to get green, created an atmosphere of confusion and concern among the citizens of the area. Especially in the morning, the green layer that appears on the water lasts in the afternoon, and many are raising questions about the safety of drinking water in the minds of many.
Where was the change found?
The scene was highlighted in the northern part of the Bhatghar dam, as well as on the banks of Sangamner, Malwadi and Nahe villages. Due to the water supply to the villages and surrounding villages from this dam, there was discomfort among the citizens. Due to no official disclosure, the rumors were overwhelmed, and the locals expressed concern that there could be fisheries in the dam.
What is going on?
The local administration has taken seriously the incident. Preliminary information shows that nitrogen is increasing in water due to the foods that are being dumped by private fisheries professionals. Assistant Engineer of the Water Resources Department Ganesh Tangale made it clear, “This food is rapidly the process of growing algae in the water, and it produces green tawang.”
Is the water safe?
He said that this color change is temporary and after some time it was naturally undone. Nevertheless, Sub Divisional Officer Dr. Vikas Kharat has immediately ordered to send water samples to the laboratory for inspection. Also, it is suggested to implement the necessary measures to remove the water generated from the water.
What should citizens do?
The administration is constantly monitoring the situation and it has also been urged that citizens should take care when using water till the final report.
