Ahilyanagar, Tuesday, 29 July 2025 : Due to the heavy rains that have been continuing in the catchment areas of Ahilyanagar and Nashik districts for the past few days, the water level in major dams is increasing rapidly. As a result, a large amount of water has started being released from Bhandardara and Nilwande dams. Along with this, water is also being released from Nandur Madhmeshwar dam, so a total of 39,240 cusecs of water is being released into the Godavari river. Against this backdrop, the water level of Jayakwadi dam is increasing rapidly.
Jayakwadi dam is at the final stage of water storage
Currently, Jayakwadi dam is filled to 86 percent, and considering the continuously increasing inflow of water, it is expected that the dam will reach 90 percent capacity within a week. By afternoon, water inflow into Jayakwadi was 31,896 cusecs. If the intensity of the rains continues, the administration has expressed the possibility that preparations will have to be made for the release.
Status and planning of Mula Dam
The water storage in Mula Dam is also increasing rapidly, and the current storage is 21,706 million cubic feet. The target has been set to maintain the storage at 22,800 million cubic feet by August 15. However, since water is currently flowing into the dam from the Kotul area at a rate of 6,000 cusecs, it is expected that this dam will also reach close to 90 percent within a week. Therefore, the decision to release from the dam will be taken keeping in mind the weather and the inflow.
Details of the ongoing release from the dams
Water has started to be released rapidly in major rivers. 50,119 cusecs are being released from Daund bridge on the Bhima River, and water is being released into the Godavari River from Nandur Madhmeshwar Dam at a rate of 12,093 cusecs. In Pravara river, 4,806 cusecs of water is being released from Bhandardara dam, 7,475 cusecs from Nilwande dam and 14,896 cusecs from Ozar. Also, water is being released from Ghod dam in Ghod river at a rate of 10,000 cusecs.
Effect of May rains and new inflow
Due to the heavy rains in Nagar and Nashik districts in May, water stored in dams remained. As a result, new inflows started early and the stock was maintained successfully. Currently, due to continuous rains in the higher parts of Nashik and Nagar districts, the water flow has increased, and inflows in other dams including Jayakwadi have started again.
Cautionary warning
The district administration has issued a cautionary warning to the citizens. Villages along the river banks should remain alert, and local systems have been kept ready for possible releases due to the rising level of water reservoirs. If the rains continue in the next few days, planned releases will be started from many dams.
