Because, the reservation for the post of Sarpanch is going to be announced anew. On July 23 and 24, the lottery for reservation will be held at various places in the district, and due to this, along with excitement, there is also a little bit of excitement in the hearts of the interested candidates. In the reservation for the post of Sarpanch, which determines the leadership at the village level, the reservation announced once earlier was favorable to some, while it had shocked the expectations of others. But now, according to the new order of the Supreme Court, a decision has been taken to change the reservation. The state government has accordingly ordered a new reservation process and the District Collector’s Office has completed the preparations for it.
In this new reservation, a detailed plan has been prepared and sent to the District Collector for approval as to which village will have a women’s reserved post, where it will remain open to the general public, and where it will be reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The special thing is that in the five-year period from 2025 to 2030, out of 1,223 gram panchayats, the post of sarpanch will be for the general open category in 624 places. Out of these, 312 places will be reserved for women. There are 330 places reserved for the OBC category, of which half the seats – that is, 165 – are reserved for women. There are 119 seats reserved for Scheduled Tribes, of which 60 will have women sarpanches. Similarly, 150 seats for Scheduled Castes, of which 75 women will be represented.
