With the rapid and continuing growth of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, the supply of sound road network has taken the centre stage. To fulfill such needs, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is seeking the major breakthrough in the developmental process of the 83-kilometer Ring Road initiative. The creation of this vast super-highway was designed to reduce congestion in metropolitan areas, as well as to provide better regional connect. It is expected to revolutionize transportation trends in the region.
Advances in Land Surveys
The Ring Road design takes a plot on twelve villages during the first phase. Official reports point out that surveys have already been done in ten of these settlements, hence making a critical shift out of the conceptual to the practical form of implementation. Nevertheless, surveys in Jambhulwadi and Kadam Vasti are not completed yet because residents have presented several objections, and no additional data is possible at the moment.
As a retaliation, the PMRDA has started the dialogue directly with these communities, and it is making a foray to quell the old conflicts. The authorities expect that with these discussions going well the other surveys can be performed without further interference.
Purchase and Compensation Plans of Land
In those surveys already having gone to a mature state, PMRDA has proposed direct land-purchase agreements. Public notice will also be soon given to bring to the attention of affected property owners with regard to land-acquisition process. A district level committee will evaluate compensation at the completion of final measurements through current market values.
The last meeting on the matter is set next week at the meeting point of Dr. Kalyan Pandhare and PMRDA, who handles land-acquisition initiatives. To this effect, he has assured that the acquisition and compensation will not start until all the data gathered is confirmed.
To have better management, the entire project of the Ring Road is de-mutualized into separate phases. Phase 1 converts two major rivers 1) Solu Interchange to Nirgudi and 2) Nirgudi to Vadgaon Shinde. In the SoluNirgudi segment alone, about 115 hectares of land needs to be acquired which includes12 villages in total.
Surveys have been done in Solu, Vadgaon Shinde, Nirgudi, Ambegaon Khurd, Bhilarewadi, Mangdewadi, Gujar Nimbalkarwadi, Pisoli, Yewlewadi and Vadachi Wadi. The milestone surveys bring the project nearer to its actual implementation.
The Effect in Traffic and Connectivity
When done, the PMRDA Ring Road will deliver a crucial alleviation roadway to the frenzied urban center of Pune and decrease traffic congestion in occupied regions and will subsequently equip swifter connections between zones that are growing newly. The corridor will work as a high-capacity artery that will support both daily commuters and travelers covering longer routes.
Although the MSRDC is also developing its own outer ring road, the project developed by the PMRDA is supposed to supplement it; the two roads will provide a more dynamic and far-sighted transport system of the entire region.
The next few months would be critical as the PMRDA still works out roadblocks, clinches deals over land, and lays the foundation of one of the largest infrastructure projects in recent Pune history.
