Pune Saturday, 19 July 2025 : The airport project, which has been in the news for the last few years in Purandar taluka, has finally taken a new turn. The government has now taken a clear and concrete decision for this project, which has many doubts, concerns and expectations in the minds of farmers.

The government has finally announced a compensation package that will provide relief to the farmers for the land acquisition process, which was the subject of controversy, agitations and discussions. Therefore, now there is hope among the people of the area whether this project will actually become a reality.

An important meeting was recently held in Mumbai under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and other concerned officials were also present in this meeting. On this occasion, the government took a big decision regarding the land acquisition of the land required for Purandar International Airport.

According to this decision, farmers who voluntarily give up their land will be given a developed plot equal to ten percent of the area of their original land and will also get a cash compensation of four times the current market price. Not only this, the government has also assured that their family members will also get a job opportunity.

Earlier, many farmers were not satisfied with just cash compensation. They strongly insisted that they should get their land back not just money. Keeping this demand in mind, the government has now prepared a more equitable and future-secure package under the amended 2019 Act. This scheme is a kind of honor, especially for the farmers who supported it from the beginning.

About 2,673 hectares of land will be acquired in seven villages in Pune district – Vanpuri, Udachiwadi, Kumbharvalan, Ekhatpur, Munjawadi, Khanwadi and Pargaon. Notices were already issued to the farmers for this, and about two thousand objections were filed. Some supported it, some are still opposing it. But the package that has been announced now has reassured many farmers and has also dispelled their fears to some extent.

Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi, while reacting to this, said that now the land acquisition process will be easier, as the huge opposition from the farmers will be behind. He also clarified that those who do not voluntarily give up the land will not get the developed plot, but will be paid in cash. Now the next step is to start the process of joint calculation and actual payment.

This project will open a new door in terms of transportation not only for Purandar, but for the entire Maharashtra. Air service will be more extensive and faster. Both the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister have given clear instructions to the administration to start the work early and to make all the facilities available there in advance, keeping in mind the movement of modern aircraft.
