Mumbai: Actor Rajpal Yadav, convicted in the cheque bounce case, surrendered in Tihar Jail on Thursday. The Delhi High Court had ordered him to surrender in jail by February 4, and after this, Rajpal reported his presence before the authorities after the given deadline.

Rajpal Yadav surrendered before the Tihar Jail authorities at 4 pm. Jail sources said, “Now the jail authorities will follow the procedure.” Earlier, the High Court had refused to extend the time given to him, which required him to be present by the final date.

“I am a law-abiding citizen. I will not run away. But the current situation is that I really do not have the money. If I had the money, I would have paid the amount. I did not do this to cheat anyone, this time has come to me due to business difficulties.”

The high court observed that “Yadav’s conduct is liable to be recorded in view of the repeated assurances given to the court to return the amount to the complainant Murali Projects Pvt. Ltd.” Yadav was liable to pay Rs 1.35 crore each in seven cases, but he has not complied with these orders.
